Reflections of the Artistic Tradition and Dynastic Change in the Coffin-Sets of the Two Sisters Tapeni and Renpetneferet from 25th Dynasty
This paper aims to examine the concepts of tradition, innovation, and archaism in the 25th Dynasty, within the two unpublished sets of coffins belonging to two sisters named Tapeni, and Renpetneferet who lived Thebes during the Kushite Era. They identified as the daughters of the priest of Amun Ankh-khonsu, these coffins date back to the 25th Dynasty (722-664 BCE). Now preserved in the Museo Egizio in Turin (Cat. Nos. 2215/01, 2215/02, 2216, 2231/01, 2231/02, 2232), they were brought from Egypt in 1824 as part of the Drovetti collection. Each burial ensemble includes a mummy placed within an anthropoid bivalve coffin, which in turn is enclosed within a rectangular, pillared outer coffin (qeresu type)—a configuration associated with elite Kushite burials.
