Optimization and corrosion performance of contact displacement of copper on ZCuAl10Fe3 aluminum bronze

This study investigates the process of depositing a copper coating on ZCuAl3Fe10 aluminum bronze surfaces via a displacement copper plating method in an aqueous solution containing H 2 SO 4 and CuSO 4 . The surface morphology, composition, and cross-section of the coating were characterized using SEM, EDS, XPS, and XRD analysis techniques. The results of the experiments show that the optimal parameters for the displacement copper plating process were determined to be: 24 g/L CuSO 4 , 80 g/L H 2 SO 4 , and plating temperature of 30 °C. The results indicate that the coating mainly consists of elemental copper and exhibits good adhesion to the substrate. The deposition process and mechanism of displacement copper plating were studied by analyzing the morphology changes of the coating after immersion for different durations. The corrosion resistance of the coating was evaluated through Tafel curve tests and salt spray tests. The results demonstrate that the displacement copper coating can improve the corrosion resistance of the substrate to a certain extent. Additionally, further improvement in corrosion resistance can be achieved by performing a sealing treatment on the copper coating.
