Essays in economics of education: Fostering human capital accumulation by improving educational outcomes and well-being of children, teenagers and young adults
This dissertation consists of five self-contained chapters each of which seeks to answer an independent research question. The chapters are, however, also interrelated, all referencing the overarching topic of economics of education and all employing modern empirical causal methods. The objective of each chapter is to explore the ways in which the educational outcomes and well-being of children, teenagers, and young adults can be improved, through investments in and outside the formal education systems, with the overarching goal of enhancing human capital accumulation. All five chapters present empirical studies, which rely on observational and experimental data and aim to estimate causal effects.
