Impact of Elective Percutaneous Coronary Revascularization on Myocardial Function Evaluated by Speckle Tracking Echocardiography.

Despite preserved ejection fraction, patients with stable coronary artery disease (CAD) may exhibit subclinical myocardial dysfunction undetectable by conventional echocardiography. Two dimensional speckle-tracking echocardiography (2D-STE) enables quantitative assessment of myocardial deformation global longitudinal strain (GLS), providing an earlier and more sensitive marker of functional recovery following percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) than traditional measures of left-ventricular performance.

Abstract

Despite preserved ejection fraction, patients with stable coronary artery disease (CAD) may exhibit subclinical myocardial dysfunction undetectable by conventional echocardiography. Two dimensional speckle-tracking echocardiography (2D-STE) enables quantitative assessment of myocardial deformation global longitudinal strain (GLS), providing an earlier and more sensitive marker of functional recovery following percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) than traditional measures of left-ventricular performance.
