Transcatheter closure of atrial septal defect device-related aortic erosion in a pediatric patient
A 5-year-old female developed aortic erosion without pericardial effusion 2 years after atrial septal defect (ASD) device closure with an Amplatzer Septal Occluder device. A defect between the right atrium and aorta was found, caused by systolic impingement of the device on the aorta. Transcatheter closure of perforation using an Amplatzer Duct Occluder II device was successfully done, avoiding open heart surgery. At the 3-year follow-up, the patient remains asymptomatic with no residual shunt and no other complications.
