Leaf‐Inspired Multifunctional Paint for Full‐Solar‐Spectrum Hyperspectral Camouflage with Enhanced Weather‐Resistance and Adhesion

Hyperspectral detection identifies concealed man-made targets in environmental backgrounds via subtle spectral differences, making developing camouflage materials mimicking backgrounds' solar spectral characteristics critical for enhancing target survivability. Green vegetation as a major environmental background is the primary mimic target. However, existing materials have spectral mismatches with vegetation, such as imprecise green peaks and unstable moisture absorption, along with poor environmental durability and weak substrate adhesion. Inspired by plant leaves' composition and biostructure, we develop a hyperspectral camouflage paint based on a fluorocarbon resin matrix containing Cr2O3 particles, copper chlorophyllin oil microcapsules (MCs), and saturated LiCl solution. In the visible spectrum, MCs and Cr2O3 mimic the scattering of multiple pigments in leaves to boost reflectance similarity, while LiCl-containing particles replicate leaf water absorption characteristics. By optimizing component ratios based on the Kubelka-Munk four-flux model, the paint achieves full-solar-spectrum 250-2500 nm camouflage with spectral similarity exceeding 0.95 to diverse leaves. Owing to the LiCl's water-binding capacity and hydrophobic fluorocarbon encapsulation, the moisture characteristics change below 3% after 720-h exposure at 30°C and 20% RH. The paint adheres to various material surfaces, with metal adhesion reaching 150 psi. The biomimetic paint integrates spectral similarity and application performance, full-solar-spectrum, hyperspectral camouflage, strong adhesion, and weather-resistance, markedly enhancing hyperspectral camouflage capability.
