Diagnostic Radiology Reveals the Bio archeological Profile of an Egyptian Mummy Found in the Akhmim Region
The Egyptian mummies exhibit great biological and cultural varieties, which require a multidisciplinary approach in studying them. This study focused on a mummy discovered in 1999 / 2000 during excavation work conducted while building a wall around the Monastery of the Virgin Mary in Akhmim. The mummy, which was found wrapped in linen strips and placed inside an anthropoid wooden coffin, was transferred and stored at the Diabat Store. The conservation of wrapped mummies presents a great challenge, but the use of diagnostic radiology techniques helps in assessing the preservation state, obtain biological data, and determine the presence or absence of any mummification process and style. Additionally, religious symbols, jewellery placed on the body, and other information can be obtained. In this study the primary goal is to determine the mummy’s preservation state and introduce details about the individual, such as sex, age at death, dental health, abnormalities in skeletal bones, and cause of death. The bio archaeological data was obtained by radiography
