Functional Apparel Designs Using Finished Fabrics for Cancer Fighters

The production of apparel designed for individuals battling cancer has emerged as a significant focus, reflecting the demand for seamless functionality that accommodates a challenging daily lifestyle. In this study, five apparel designs were created as functional and comfortable garments, considering the target areas of injection for cancer fighter patients using nonionic softener finishing and dyeing of woven, knitted cotton and cotton/polyester 50/50. Additionally, the impact of finishing on color strength behavior, soil release effectiveness, and various physico-mechanical properties that significantly influence apparel end uses such as fabric weight, stiffness, tensile strength, elongation, bursting strength, crease recovery angles, and air permeability was assessed. The results indicated notable improvements, although tensile and bursting strength exhibited slight reductions. Furthermore, the fastness properties were evaluated, revealing significant enhancements for all fabrics evaluated. Also, the application of softener finishing improved soil release efficiency and demonstrated an increase in grade values, regardless of the fabric type. Additionally, the obtained fabrics can be applied to create five apparel designs serving as functional and comfortable garments for cancer patients, helping them preserve their dignity and modesty during their battle with cancer.
