Sustainable Produced Water Management in the Oil and Gas Sector of Bangladesh: A Critical Review of Challenges, Technologies and Policy Gaps

Sustainable Produced Water Management in Oil and Gas Operations Challenges and Innovations in Bangladesh. This paper addresses the critical issue of produced water (PW) management within the oil and gas sector in Bangladesh. Given Bangladesh's densely populated delta region and reliance on onshore natural gas, sustainable PW management is essential to protect water resources and the environment. The study reviews the challenges of PW management, including its complex composition and the need for cost-effective treatment technologies, while considering the specific context of Bangladesh. It also explores innovative treatment options and the potential for beneficial reuse and resource recovery to promote sustainability. The paper concludes by emphasizing the need for integrated approaches that combine technological solutions, regulatory frameworks, and stakeholder collaboration to achieve sustainable PW management in Bangladesh.
