In vivo evaluation of the antipsoriatic efficacy of a cream containing Lavandula oil

Objective: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of a cream containing 10% lavender oil when applied topically to BALB/c rats with imiquimod–induced skin inflammation and investigate the influence of the cream on cytokines associated with psoriasis. Methods: applying a 5% imiquimod cream topically to rats caused them to develop psoriasis, which was then investigated using a randomized controlled animal method. We estimated rats' erythema, skin thickness, and scaling score to assess the impact of Lavandula oil cream treated psoriasis. Also, we screened the level of cytokines (TNF-α, IL-17, IL-23, and VEGE) correlated to psoriasis. The treatment was stopped during the 20–day study, which ended five days into the experiment. Results: When rats with psoriasis caused by imiquimod were given lavender oil cream directly, the study demonstrated a significant decrease in TNF-α, IL17, IL-23, and VEGE. Furthermore, the redness, skin thickness, and degree of scaling were all reduced. The findings showed that for the whole trial, including the final five days when therapy was stopped, the psoriatic lesions on rats treated with lavender oil cream gradually vanished. However, mometasone-treated rats exhibited a return of psoriatic lesions in the last five days of the experiment. Indicating Lavender oil cream's owning a long duration of action in treating psoriasis. Conclusion: The Study observed that psoriatic rats treated with Lavandula oil cream for their psoriasis lesions showed a long-lasting and successful cure. This impact is due to a decrease in psoriatic cytokine levels.
