Clinical Efficacy of Scalp Acupuncture Combined With Repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation for Parkinson's Disease With REM Sleep Behavior Disorder

This study aimed to investigate the clinical efficacy of scalp acupuncture combined with repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) for Parkinson's disease with REM sleep behavior disorder. A total of 120 cases of Parkinson's disease (PD) complicated by rapid eye movement (REM) sleep behavior disorder (RBD) were randomly divided into an observation group and a control group, with 60 cases in each group. The observation group received scalp acupuncture combined with rTMS, while the control group only received rTMS. Compared with the baseline, the two groups showed a reduction in RBD screening questionnaire (RBDSQ) score, PSQI score, NMSS score, and 39-item Parkinson's Disease Questionnaire (PDQ-39) score to varying degrees. Compared with the control group, the observation group showed a significant reduction in the RBDSQ score, PSQI score, NMSS score, and PDQ-39 score after treatment. In conclusion, (1) head acupuncture combined with repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) can significantly improve the clinical symptoms, sleep quality, and nonmotor symptoms of patients with Parkinson's disease. (2) The efficacy of head acupuncture combined with rTMS therapy surpasses that of rTMS therapy alone. (3) Head acupuncture combined with repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation therapy represents an effective method to ameliorate nonmotor symptoms in individuals suffering from Parkinson's disease.
