On the issue of the representativeness of the database "The population of urban settlements in the Middle Urals "

The purpose of creating the database is to design an electronic source focused on studying the socio-demographic appearance of Ural urban settlements. The database is based on the census forms of the All-Union Population Census of 1959. The primary materials are more informative than the edited data from official publications, and partly from collections "for official use." Almost all the discovered cases represent a sample, the mechanism of formation of which cannot be unambiguously interpreted based on the nature of the preserved materials and brings it closer in properties to the natural one. This fact actualizes the problem of sample representativeness. Each of the arrays presented in the sample, formed on the basis of the files of territorial statistical bodies covering one or more urban settlements, has its own characteristics due to both the historical development and the economic specialization of the settlement or group of settlements. To identify the degree of representativeness of the sample, the historical-genetic method and methods of mathematical statistics were used, in particular, a comparison of the actual statistical criterion and its critical value for a normal distribution. The study of the distribution of data by gender and age and gender groups was conducted separately for each array, represented by a separate table in the created database. The results of the study allow us to conclude that the data for different urban settlements have different degrees of representativeness. In addition, the distribution by gender is less likely to be unrepresentative based on the conducted research than the distribution by age groups. In some cases, for example, when clarifying the sex and age structure of the population, additional research may be required or other available sources may be used to verify them. The results of the study allow us to conclude that the data for different urban settlements have different degrees of representativeness, in particular, the data from Degtyarsk in the Revdisny district are the most representative, while the data from Tavda and the territory of the Berezovsky City Council are the least representative. Given the generally high degree of representativeness of the data studied, in some cases, for example, when clarifying the sex and age structure of the population, additional research may be required or other available sources may be used to verify them
