DETERMINATION OF LACIDIPINE IN PRESENCE OF ITS ACID-INDUCED DEGRADATION PRODUCT IN BULK AND PHARMACEUTICAL DOSAGE FORM BY FIRST DERIVATIVE, DUAL WAVELENGTH AND SIMULTANEOUS EQUATION UV SPECTROPHOTOMETRIC METHODS

Three simple, precise and economical UV spectrophotometric methods have been developed for the estimation of lacidipine and its degradation product in bulk and pharmaceutical formulations. The first method was first derivative and the linear correlation was obtained between the amplitudes at 249.40 nm and linearity was found to be in the range of 1-16 µg/mL . The second method was dual wavelength where the difference in absorbance at 240 and 259.40 nm which equals zero for the degradation product, the third method was simultaneous equation where the interference between the intact drug and its degradation product can be resolved by measuring the absorbances at 240 nm (λmax of intact drug) and at 267 (λmax of degradation product), linearity for the proposed three UV spectrophotometric methods was found in the range of 1-16 µg/mL.
