Treehouse Architecture as Disaster-Resilient Shelter Typology.
This paper suggests treehouses as a disaster-prone shelter prototype for regions under a high impact damage risk. Based on precedent literature, ecological data and structural design principles, it examines how tree-integrated shelters can mitigate floods, tsunamis, hurricanes and other natural hazards, while promoting local forest restoration and particular care to trees at arboricultural level. The research highlights key tree species with structural and regenerative traits suitable for long-term resilience and treehouse samples around the world that could be used as a design template for temporary or long-term shelter modules. Findings suggest that treehouse shelters offer a sustainable, low-impact and low cost and modular emergency construction alternatives for displaced communities.
