The multidisciplinary management of a patient with infected iliocaval stents and uterine cancer invasion
Females with gynecological cancer have an increased risk of deep vein thrombosis related to hypercoagulability and mechanical compression on adjacent veins. This report discusses the multidisciplinary management of a patient with thrombosis and infection of iliocaval stents owing to recurrent uterine carcinoma invasion, requiring en bloc resection of the mass with curative oncological and infectious intent. A two-stage procedure was performed. The first stage involved an extra-anatomical left axillary to superficial femoral artery bypass and embolization of the left external iliac artery. The second stage entailed radical resection of the mass and left iliac vessels, including the infected stents.
