Safety and Efficacy of Middle Meningeal Artery Embolization Combined With Burr Hole Craniostomy in the Treatment of Refractory Chronic Subdural Hematoma in Young Adults
At the time of this writing, the treatment of chronic subdural hematoma (CSDH) is showing a trend toward individualization and diversification. Both drug therapy and classic burr hole craniostomy (BHC) have definite therapeutic effects. However, with the in-depth study of the pathogenesis of CSDH and the innovation of technology, reports on middle meningeal artery embolization (MMAE) for treating CSDH are increasingly emerging. The authors report a young adult with traumatic CSDH that recurred shortly after BHC. Despite combined treatment with MMAE and repeat BHC, recurrence occurred 3 weeks after the procedure. Eventually, the patient was cured with a combination of medication. This case aims to evaluate the effectiveness of MMAE in treating refractory CSDH in young adults.
