Skill Education as a Catalyst for Empowerment and Entrepreneurship: An Indian Policy Perspective

Skill education has become a central pillar of socio-economic development in India, particularly in the context of demographic advantage, unemployment challenges, and the need for inclusive growth. Traditional academic education, while important, has been insufficient in addressing employability gaps and entrepreneurial preparedness among youth. Skill education, when aligned with empowerment and entrepreneurship, has the potential to transform individuals from job seekers into job creators. This paper examines the role of skill education in promoting economic, social, and entrepreneurial empowerment in India, with a specific focus on national policies such as the National Education Policy 2020, Skill India Mission, Startup India, and other skill development initiatives. The study adopts a conceptual and analytical approach based on secondary data drawn from government reports, policy documents, and scholarly literature. The findings highlight that skill education contributes significantly to empowerment by enhancing employability, self-reliance, innovation, and entrepreneurial capacity. The paper concludes that effective integration of skill education with entrepreneurship development is essential for achieving sustainable and inclusive economic growth in India.
