Occupational Health Hazards in the Indian IT Sector: A Comprehensive Review (2025)
The Indian Information Technology (IT) sector has emerged as one of the most influential contributors to national economic growth, employment generation, and global competitiveness. Despite its rapid expansion, the sector presents a range of occupational health hazards that significantly affect employee well-being and organizational productivity. This paper provides a comprehensive review and empirical analysis of occupational health hazards in the Indian IT sector in 2025, focusing on physical, psychological, and organizational risks. Using a mixed-method approach involving survey data from 600 IT professionals and qualitative interviews, the study identifies high prevalence of musculoskeletal disorders (62%), visual strain (55%), occupational stress (48%), and lifestyle-related health issues (38%). Statistical analysis reveals significant associations between prolonged screen time, sedentary behavior, and adverse health outcomes. The findings highlight gaps in ergonomic infrastructure, mental health support, and organizational wellness policies. The paper concludes with evidence-based recommendations for employers, policymakers, and employees to promote sustainable occupational health practices. The study contributes to occupational health literature by integrating post-pandemic hybrid work
