Ultrahigh Sensitivities of Dual-Mode Self-Calibration Pressure-Sensing Phosphors Lu 3 Al 5 O 12 :Tb 3+ /Eu 3+ ,Mn 4+

As the research on static high-pressure technology progresses, the demand for efficient and accurate pressure-sensing phosphors has been growing. In this Article, a dual-mode self-calibrated pressure-sensing system was achieved by introducing Tb3+/Eu3+ and Mn4+ ions with independent emission peaks into the Lu3Al5O12 (LAG) garnet structure. The first mode was based on the red-shift of the Mn4+ emission peak under high pressure, with the sensitivity (dλ/d<i>P</i>) of the peak position calculated to be 0.85 and 0.86 nm GPa-1, respectively. The second mode was founded on the different pressure dependence of the emission intensities of Tb3+/Eu3+ and Mn4+ ions, yielding relative sensitivities of 40.25% and 15.79% GPa-1, respectively. These sensitivities were computed by fluorescence intensity ratio (FIR) technology. The relative sensitivities of LAG:Tb3+,Mn4+ are significantly higher than those of any previously reported phosphors. Additionally, the LAG:Tb3+,Mn4+ phosphor facilitated the visual observation of pressure, and the Commission Internationale de l'Eclairage (CIE) chromaticity coordinates can shift from the orange zone (0.4207, 0.3923) to the green zone (0.3388, 0.4095) with an increase in pressure. This work offers a new perspective for the design of multimode pressure-sensing phosphors.
