Cogging Torque Reduction in Induction Motor Through Rotor Skewing
This research article investigates the reduction of cogging torque in a squirrel cage induction motor (IM) through the rotor skewing method. A multi-sliced 2D finite element analysis (FEA) method is utilized to model and analyze the skewed IM. The multi-sliced 2D FEA consumes reduced amount of computational time compared to a traditional 3D FEA for the skewed squirrel cage IM. The study explores the impact of different skewing angles on the cogging torque, current waveforms, and an overall performance of the squirrel cage IM.
