An Investigation of the Relationship Between Professional Identity and Organizational Commitment Among Physical Education and Sports Teachers

The purpose of this study was to determine the levels of professional identity and organizational commitment among physical education and sports teachers and to examine the effect of professional identity on organizational commitment. The research employed a quantitative design with a correlational survey model and was carried out during the 2024–2025 academic year with the participation of 264 physical education and sports teachers. Data were collected using a personal information form, the Professional Identity Scale, and the Organizational Commitment Scale. Since the data were normally distributed, descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation analysis, and simple regression analysis were applied. The results indicated that teachers’ professional identity was at a high level, whereas their organizational commitment was at a moderate level. Moreover, a positive relationship was found between professional identity and organizational commitment, showing that higher levels of professional identity significantly predicted higher levels of organizational commitment. In conclusion, professional identity appears to be an important factor in enhancing teachers’ organizational commitment. It is therefore recommended that initiatives and practices aimed at strengthening teachers’ professional identity be implemented to support and increase their organizational commitment.
