Response to Letter to the Editor Regarding “Methodological Issues in the Translation of Aged Care Clinical Leadership Qualities Framework Into Swedish” by Frank Scott T. Rojas (2025)

We appreciate the interest shown by Rojas (2025) in our work and welcome feedback on our paper: Framing Person-Centred Leadership in Residential Care: A Cross-Cultural Adaptation of the Aged-Care Clinical Leadership Qualities Framework (ACLQF). As the main author, I value the opportunity to respond to the methodological issues raised by Rojas. Since our paper presents the cross-cultural adaptation of the Aged Care Clinical Leadership Qualities Framework into Swedish, aspects of the translation process are important to discuss and reflect upon. The translation of the original ACLQF (Jeon et al. 2015) was carried out by two independent bilingual professional translators. The original (Australian) English version of the framework was first translated into Swedish by a professional qualified translator. The Swedish version of the framework was then translated back into English by a second professional translator, who was blinded to the original wording of the framework (cf. Maneesriwongul and Dixon 2004). This procedure corresponds to the first stages described by Beaton et al. (2000): initial translation, synthesis of the translations, and back translation. Our translation approach thus thoroughly follows established guidelines for cross-cultural adaptation as described by Beaton et al. (2000) and Maneesriwongul and Dixon (2004). As noted by Rojas (2025), the ACLQF was originally developed within an Australian context, where specific cultural norms and values shape leadership in residential care. This is also the reason for involving leaders in Swedish residential care in the cultural adaptation and in validating the applicability of the framework, to ensure accuracy and contextual appropriateness. The author has nothing to report. The author declares no conflicts of interest. Abstract
