Integrative Approach in Grade-III Caustic Injuries of Foregut in Adults: A Narrative Review
Abstract Corrosive ingestion, though rare, is a life-threatening condition. It requires multidisciplinary emergency approaches. In our review studies, it was seen that strong alkalis are more frequently ingested than acids and lead to more serious and high-grade injuries and complications. CT scan proved to be superior to traditional endoscopy for deciding whether to go for emergency resection or conservative management. Also, mortality was high. Many complications were seen, causing morbidity and mortality. Timely and appropriate treatment is most important for good patient outcomes.
