Elizabethkingia meningoseptica Meningitis in a Term Neonate

Abstract Elizabethkingia meningoseptica is a rare but significant cause of meningitis in neonates and is associated with nosocomial infections. This case report presents a term infant who developed meningitis during hospitalization. Late onset of illness, cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) cultures showed growth of E. meningoseptica , with antimicrobial susceptibility testing indicating sensitivity to levofloxacin and minocycline. Surgery and combination antibiotics help improve infant conditions. Further, the absence of convulsions and negative growth on the CSF sample indicates successful treatment. Thus, accurate microbiological identification plays a crucial role in the therapeutic management of neonates.
