Magnetic Dipole Moment for Optical Transitions and Circular Dichroism in Single-Wall Carbon Nanotubes

A theory of circular dichroism in single-walled carbon nanotubes is constructed within the tight-binding method using the multipolar expansion of the light–matter interaction. Analytical expressions for the matrix elements of the magnetic dipole moment for optical transitions and the optical rotatory strength in carbon nanotubes are obtained. These expressions are universally valid for nanotubes of arbitrary chirality.

Abstract

A theory of circular dichroism in single-walled carbon nanotubes is constructed within the tight-binding method using the multipolar expansion of the light–matter interaction. Analytical expressions for the matrix elements of the magnetic dipole moment for optical transitions and the optical rotatory strength in carbon nanotubes are obtained. These expressions are universally valid for nanotubes of arbitrary chirality.
