Comparative Analysis of Natural vs. Synthetic Fiber Composites in Automotive Panels.

The automotive industry is currently navigating a significant transition toward sustainable manufacturing, catalyzed by international carbon-neutral mandates and the technical necessity of vehicle lightweighting. This research provides a rigorous comparative evaluation between natural fiber-reinforced composites (NFRCs)—specifically Flax, Hemp, and Jute—and industry-standard synthetic E-glass reinforced polymers. Beyond basic mechanical metrics, this study dives into the chemical interfacial bonding mechanisms, the specific damping coefficients relevant to cabin NVH (Noise, Vibration, and Harshness), and a cradle-to-gate Life Cycle Assessment (LCA). Our findings demonstrate that while E-glass composites possess a 25-30% advantage in absolute tensile strength, NFRCs offer a 35% reduction in density and a 40% improvement in acoustic energy dissipation. By analyzing the trade-offs between structural rigidity and environmental impact, this paper positions NFRCs as the optimal choice for semi-structural automotive components like door modules, dashboards, and parcel shelves.
