Plenoptic wavefront sensor reconstruction algorithm tailored for sensing turbulence
We present a plenoptic wavefront sensor algorithm adapted for the recovery of turbulent wavefronts. Our approach employs a specialized consolidation technique for incoherently combining phase tilt contributions from the individual cells of the composite sensor image. Using a synthetic turbulent wavefront and a numerical model of the plenoptic wavefront sensor to emulate the measurement process, we demonstrate the efficacy of our technique by reconstructing the turbulent wavefront from the composite sensor image and evaluating the sensor's overall performance. We identify the sources of error intrinsic to the sensor architecture and discuss prospects for improving its performance.
