Decoupled Control of Active and Reactive Power at the PCC Using Local Measurements for an Inverter Interfaced Virtual Power Plant

This work develops a decoupled control of active and reactive power for an inverter interfaced virtual power plant (VPP), considering the power losses over the feeder, connecting the inverter to the point of common coupling (PCC). Although active and reactive power is controlled at the far end of the feeder, the control is achieved by using only the local measurements at the inverter terminals, thereby reducing the implementation costs on account of less communication needs. The corresponding active and reactive power injections at the PCC are estimated from local measurements at the inverter terminals consisting of voltage magnitude, current magnitude, active and reactive power, and parameters of the feeder. The proposed controller uses Parks transformation and PI control logic to implement the decoupled control. Results on a test network under different scenarios prove the proposed controller can accurately inject the contracted amount of active and reactive power at the PCC.
