Universality Classes of Random Matrix Spectra in Deep Neural Network Landscapes: A Motivic Approach
Mathematical Applications of Science Fiction We investigate the spectral properties of the Hessian oper-ator H associated with the loss landscape of deep neuralnetworks in the thermodynamic limit (N → ∞). Departingfrom classical Wigner-Dyson universality, we demonstratethat the empirical spectral distribution (ESD) of the Hes-sian at critical points converges to a limit distributiongoverned by the motivic L-functions of the underlying pa-rameter variety. By modeling the weight space as a perfec-toid space Θperf, we derive a generalized Marchenko-Pasturlaw deformed by the étale cohomology of the activationscheme. We prove that the local eigenvalue statistics ex-hibit a transition from Poissonian to GUE-like behavior, mediated by a phase transition in the derived category ofthe neural sheaf. We establish eight fundamental lemmasregarding the resolvent expansion and the stability of theStieltjes transform under non-Hermitian perturbations, ul-timately proving a universality theorem for the "Synaptic"ensemble.
