Surnames of the Rivne Region with the Suffixes -uk-,-yuk-, -chuk- in the Context of Ukrainian-Polish Studies

The article is devoted to the study of surnames of the historical territory of the Rivne region in Ukraine with the suffixes -uk-, -yuk-, -chuk- in the context of Ukrainian-Polish studies. It should be noted that these anthroponymic formants are characteristic of the north-western regions of Ukraine, in particular the Rivne region, as well as the eastern regions of Poland and the southern regions of Belarus. They are mainly of Slavic, Lithuanian and Turkic origin. The analysed suffixes are polyfunctional morphemes. Combining with the original stem, they initially perform a diminutive, and later a surnameforming function, changing its structure, semantics and functional purpose. The regional source base provides evidence of the surname-forming function of formants over the past two centuries. The bases of surnames include anthroponyms (names, bynames, surnames) and appellatives.
