Quantifying Typical Diagnostic Reference Levels for Positron Emission Tomography in a Private Nuclear Medicine Centre in Marrakech-Morocco.
The aim of this study is to quantify the Typical Diagnostic Reference Levels (TDRL) values for adult patients concerning whole-body Positron Emission Tomography (PET) 18F-FDG examination in a new private nuclear medicine centre in Marrakech-Safi region. For the administration of activities, the median value was determined using 202 PET exams. Sex, age, weight and height were also recorded. The results of this study demonstrated that the TDRL for 18F-FDG was 196 MBq. The association of injected activity and patient characteristics has been assessed. The results obtained indicates that the TDRL calculated for whole-body FDG PET is less than the published National Diagnostic Reference Levels, from Switzerland, France, South Korea, Dubai, Qatar, Australia and New Zealand, Japan and Health information & Quality Authority. For the first time, diagnostic reference levels have been established for PET imaging in Moroccan adults. These diagnostic reference levels should be used to optimize radiation protection, particularly with regard to nuclear medicine imaging in the Kingdom.
