Community Based Integrated Management of Enset and Banana Bacterial and FusariumWilt Diseases in HAgazaWatershade, Wolaita Zone, South Ethiopia
Enset and banana bacterial and fusarium wilt diseases are one of the major constraints of ensetand banana production in AgazaWatershade, DamotWoyide district of Wolaita zone, South Ethiopia. A Community mobilized Integrated Disease Management (IDM) practices were conducted to minimize the impacts of these diseases using sanitary control measures, improved cultural practices, and disease free clones, in 2024 and 2025.A practical training was given to farmers (20) and agricultural experts(5) on IDM implementation before mass mobilization. After training, about 80% of farmers were aware of the symptomsand integrated management options to control enset and banana bacterial and fusarium wilt diseases.Mass mobilization reduced the disease incidence to 27.33% from 58.3% for enset bacterial wilt and 25% from 50%for banana fusarium wilt in ToraSedebokebele, from 43.8% to 20.5% for enset bacterial wilt and from 70% to 20.5% for fasaruim wilt in 01kebele; This study showed that the IDM training and mass mobilization would be to minimize the impact of enset and banana bacterial and fusarium wilt diseases.
