Self-assembled nanostructured membranes with an imidazolium-sulfonate betaine group: ionic columnar liquid crystals with water treatment and CO 2 gas separation properties

We report the development of a separation membrane prepared from a liquid-crystalline columnar structure containing betaine nanochannels. The membrane showed enhanced water permeability and CO 2 /N 2 separation properties.
