From childhood trauma to body distortion in schizophrenia: The mediating role of early maladaptive schemas
These findings suggest that specific maladaptive schemas mediate the impact of childhood trauma on bodily self-disturbances in schizophrenia. The Mistrust/abuse schema may disrupt embodied self-perception through hypervigilance and dissociative processes, whereas Entitlement/grandiosity may alter internal body representations as a defensive strategy. Targeting EMS in trauma-focused interventions may help reduce body-related anomalies in schizophrenia. Further longitudinal studies are warranted to confirm these preliminary results.
