Designing of Virtual Reality Experimental Environments using Multiple High-Resolution Display Devices

This study proposes a novel experimental environment using multiple high-resolution monitors to simulate a virtual reality (VR) headset experience. Our primary goal was to create a flexible and controlled setup to investigate the relationship between VR resolution and motion sickness. To confirm the reliability of this surround monitor display, we conducted motion sickness experiments in both the conventional VR headset and the proposed environment by varying the resolution in each. Both experimental setups showed a consistent trend: Simulator sickness questionnaire (SSQ) values decreased as the resolution increased. An independent samples t-test comparing the normalized SSQ values between the two environments revealed no statistically significant differences. This finding validates the multimonitor setup as a reliable and effective alternative to VR headsets. The proposed environment is particularly useful for future VR studies, where precise control over resolution and other display factors is required, offering flexibility that is not available with current commercial headsets.
