Enhancing Glucometer Technology for Improved Diabetes Management: A User’s Perspectives
Introduction: The present study aims to assess responses related to the current utilization of glucometers, focusing on identifying areas for optimization and exploring future possibilities. Di-abetic patients and their relatives who use glucometers regularly were included in this survey to gain a customer-centric perspective and identify the needs and preferences of users. Methods: The data collection process employed a survey methodology, wherein a structured ques-tionnaire was used to gather insights from a total of 140 individuals, comprising doctors, nurses/care-takers, diabetic patients, and relatives of patients/non-diabetic participants. The questionnaire in-cluded Likert scale questions, allowing respondents to select the option that best reflected their view-point. Results: The survey revealed that a significant portion of respondents experience negative emotions related to finger pricking, which led to a desire for additional features in glucometer devices. Discussion: Respondents were generally satisfied with the current use of glucometers; however, the majority suggested additional benefits to improve accurate glucose monitoring. This study mainly focused on glucometer users from the state of Kerala, India. To gain a more comprehensive under-standing, future studies could expand the sample size. Conclusion: To enhance user experience, future developments in glucometer design should consider non-invasive glucose monitoring technologies, such as measuring glucose from sweat, tears, or saliva, to reduce reliance on traditional finger pricking.
