Short‐Time Effects of Cr 2 O 3 on Lime Dissolution Behavior in Converter Slag

A systematic investigation is conducted on the influence of Cr 2 O 3 on lime dissolution behavior in CaO‐SiO 2 ‐Fe t O‐MgO‐Cr 2 O 3 converter slag under conditions of low initial temperature and insufficient thermal energy during semi‐steel steelmaking. Experimental methodologies included rotational viscometry for slag viscosity measurement, scanning electron microscope–energy‐dispersive X‐ray spectroscopy characterization for interface analysis, and thermodynamic simulations using FactSage 8.1. The results show that as Cr 2 O 3 content exceeds 3 wt%, the dissolution rate of lime gradually decreases. The dynamic viscosity of CaO‐SiO 2 ‐Fe t O‐MgO‐Cr 2 O 3 system increases progressively, while the melting temperature remains essentially constant. Furthermore, the rate‐limiting mechanisms governing lime dissolution under static conditions are systematically investigated through three principal aspects: 1) the reaction rate at the lime‐slag interface, 2) the internal diffusion rate in the product layer, and 3) the mass transfer rate within the slag bulk.
