Effect of Microwave Preactivated Base Asphalt on Rubber Powder Modification
The extra chemical effects of microwave heating cause cracking and degradation of heavy components in the basic asphalt at lower temperatures, resulting in changes in the asphalt’s composition and chemical structure. This adjustment could greatly increase the performance of polymer-modified asphalt. As a result, this research investigated the differences in compatibility, stability, and engineering rheological properties between rubber powder modified base asphalt (AR) and rubber powder modified microwave preactivated asphalt (MAR) using the same amount of rubber powder and sulfur stabilizer. Research has discovered that the dispersion of rubber powder in microwave activated asphalt is more uniform, improving the compatibility and stability of rubber powder modified asphalt. Microwave activation improves the engineering rheological characteristics of rubber powder treated asphalt. The study’s findings serve as a guide for optimizing the production of high-performance rubber powder modified asphalt in factories, allowing for further application and development.
