Optimization of Steam Condenser Operation to Improve Rankine Cycle Thermal Efficiency
This conference paper presents an analytical investigation into the optimization of steam condenser operation to improve the thermal efficiency of Rankine cycle power plants. The study examines the influence of key operating parameters, including cooling-water temperature, fouling resistance, and cooling-water flow-rate deviations, on condenser pressure, heat-transfer performance, and overall cycle efficiency. The findings highlight that even modest variations in cooling-water conditions can significantly impact condenser vacuum, turbine back-pressure, and plant output. The results emphasize the importance of optimized cooling-water management, routine tube cleaning, and effective operational control to enhance condenser performance and support sustainable power generation.
