Enhancing post-surgical survivorship in Geriatric triple-negative breast cancer through Ayurved Rasayana Therapy - A patient-centered exploration of quality of life and long-term disease-free survival outcomes

Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) accounts for 24% of total breast cancer cases with a poor prognosis and high relapse rate. There is a need of an effective safe and well-tolerable therapeutic option for reducing the risk of disease progression postsurgery. Herein is presented a case of a 73-year-old woman diagnosed with TNBC Stage II B who had undergone a simple mastectomy with left axillary sentinel node dissection. Postsurgery, the patient refused to take adjuvant conventional treatments because of concerns related to toxicity and intolerability. The patient’s aim was to enhance survival and improve quality of life (QoL), hence decided to start Ayurved Rasayana Therapy. After a thorough evaluation of the patient personalized Ayurvedic Rasayana Therapy with proprietary formulations primarily consisting of compounds such as Heerak Bhasma , Somnathi Tamra Bhasma , Suvarna Bhasma , Roupya Bhasma , and Trivanga Bhasma and classical formulations such as Chandraprabha Vati , Arogyavardhini Vati , Goksharadi Guggul , and Prataplankeshwar Ras was planned. After 3 months of therapy, the patient showed a significant improvement in performance status (accessed by the Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group) . Ayurvedic Rasayana Therapy was well tolerated, and till submission of this case report, disease-free survival (DFS) of the patient is 48 months. While further studies are warranted, this outcome suggests a promising role for Rasayana in improving DFS and QoL in high-risk breast cancer survivors.
