Translation-rotation Type Fracture of the Vertebrae C6-7 with ASIA Impairment Scale B in a 53-Year-Old Woman
A BSTRACT Cervical fractures are rare, where only 2%–3% of cases are encountered in daily practice. The translational-rotational fracture is one of the most severe types of cervical fracture and is rare in daily practice. We present a case of a 53-year-old woman who came to the ER with a chief complaint of weakness in all four limbs 6 days ago. Six days earlier, the patient fell from a jackfruit tree as high as 2 m and landed prone. From the neurological examination, it was found that there was a decrease in motor strength in all four extremities, and it was concluded that the patient falls into the ASIA impairment Scale B category. A cervical computed tomography scan showed an unstable translational-rotational fracture of C6-7. This case is notable due to the rare translational-rotational type of cervical fracture combined with a delayed but technically demanding decompressive laminectomy and multilevel fusion stabilization.
