Evaluating AI Readiness in Foresight Higher Education Programs

This study examines the degree to which higher education programs in futures studies and related fields equip students to engage effectively in a world integrated with artificial intelligence (AI). Through content analysis of publicly available syllabi from ten prominent programs, the research assesses alignment with established AI literacy frameworks. Results reveal partial integration of AI-related content as of late 2025. Certain programs demonstrate strong technical and ethical coverage, while others exhibit minimal explicit AI content, often prioritizing transdisciplinary approaches to sustainable futures without dedicated AI modules. Emerging initiatives include general education efforts promoting responsible AI use, though these are not specifically tailored to foresight contexts. The study concludes with a set of recommendations for developing hybrid foresight frameworks that leverage AI to augment human judgment, while emphasizing equity and ethical governance. It contributes to the field of futures by proposing strategies that cultivate leaders adept at navigating and ethically shaping AI-infused futures.
