Recent Advancement of the Cobalt‐Based Catalysts for Gaseous Pollutants Emission Control

Continuous improvement of air quality is crucial for the sustainable development of society and the economy. Catalytic purification is the most important technique for achieving end-of-pipe emissions reduction in air pollution control, and its key concept is the catalyst. Transition metals are the focus of current high-performance catalyst development, and cobalt-based catalysts, with their excellent redox properties, high activity, and stability, play a very important role in air pollution control. Therefore, in this review, the research progress of cobalt-based catalysts in air pollution control, covering nitrogen oxides (NOx), sulfur dioxide (SO2), hydrogen sulfide (H2S), volatile organic compounds (VOCs), ozone (O3), and greenhouse gas-carbon dioxide (CO2), has been comprehensively summarized. Finally, we outlined the current shortcomings and challenges in cobalt-based catalyst research and provided some insights into future development. It is expected that this review will help the readers to acquire concise and systematic information as well as contribute novel ideas over a wide spectrum of disciplines.
