Designing and Evaluating MQTT Messaging System for Database Integration Across External Private Networks
As Internet of Things(IoT) technologies expand, it is crucial to ensure secure and scalable database access for isolated private networks.Conventional solutions like Virtual Private Networks and port forwarding often struggle with performance, security risks, and operational overhead. To address these challenges, this study developed the DB-to-MQTT(DMQP), a messaging framework that enables remote database queries without exposing backend systems.By leveraging the MQTT protocol, DMQP facilitates asynchronous, reliable communication through a topic-based structure via a public broker. To evaluate DMQP's performance, physical network tests were conducted across South Korea, China, and India. The results showed that DMQP outperforms the conventional Direct Database Client Connection(DDCC) method for payloads under 50 KB.This study demonstrated that DMQP provides a reliable and secure system for Industrial IoT and smart manufacturing.Furthermore, this study identified the framework as a scalable solution for environments requiring both robust security and high performance.
