Global Burden of Spinal Cord Injuries Attributable to Falls and Road Traffic Injuries in Working-Age Individuals, 1990 to 2021, with Projections through 2040: An Age-Period-Cohort Analysis
Although the burden of SCIR has declined substantially from 1990 to 2021 and is projected to continue decreasing, persistent or rising SCIF trends - expected to modestly increase by 2040 - alongside male predominance, age shifts, and socioeconomic disparities emphasize the urgency for tailored prevention: enhanced road-safety measures and occupational reforms targeting falls in high-risk groups to reduce inequities and socioeconomic costs.
