Corona Discharge Pulse Shape Analysis for Sphere Plane Configurations
This paper aims to study the experimental corona discharge pulse shape analysis (PSA) for different sizes of sphere-plane electrode configurations at different voltage levels for AC and DC sources. To achieve this goal, experimental corona discharge signals measured via oscilloscope in the form of time-resolved partial discharge pattern (TRPD) were used to assess the peak pulse amplitude <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$(i_{p})$</tex>, rise time <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$(t_{r})$</tex>, fall time <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$(t_{f})$</tex> and pulse width <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$(t_{p w})$</tex>. The study is carried out on a sphere-plane configuration test object using the proposed pulse detection tool to detect discharge pulses and extract pulse shape characteristics of pulses acquired during a <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$\text{2 0}-\text{m s}$</tex> time period. PSA patterns are based on the sequence of discharge occurrences. This approach might be very useful when corona discharges are examined and assessed, and can be utilized to comprehend the behavior of corona discharge at various voltage levels for different high-voltage sources.
