From User-Centered Meaning to Practicable Semantic Authority Infrastructure : Conditions for Unikation in Hybrid AI Architectures
This article examines the infrastructural conditions required to sustain user-centered semantic authority in AI-mediated environments. Building on a previous Unikation paper that articulated a position in favor of human-centered semantic mediation, this work shifts the focus from conceptual stance to operational design. It identifies a set of minimal conditions necessary to prevent the implicit transfer of meaning-making authority to large language models, including functional differentiation between generative and semantic operations, explicit legibility of semantic acts, declarative memory, the right to refusal and non-closure, and full temporal reversibility of semantic commitments. Rather than proposing a new language model, the article outlines an infrastructure in which generative systems may be mobilized without becoming loci of semantic decision. Questions of governance, normativity, and legal constraints are deliberately left for subsequent work.
