Using the FEV1/FVC < 0.7 as Criterion for Obstruction in the Geriatric Population: Is There a Risk of Overdiagnosis?

Use of the GOLD criteria for airflow obstruction may be associated with an overdiagnosis of more than 35% in patients older than 60 years. Lowering the FEV1/FVC ratio to < 0.65 might be more accurate in this population.
