FRAMEWORK FOR FACILITATING KNOWLEDGE EXCHANGE IN DIGITAL INNOVATION ECOSYSTEMS

The prevailing discourse in digital innovation ecosystem literature primarily focuses on developer–user interactions, often overlooking the dynamics involving non-developer–users. This study explores the key mechanisms for facilitating effective knowledge exchange with non-developer–users, enhancing their value capture within these ecosystems. A co-citation analysis highlights the often-neglected cognitive dimension of social capital as crucial for enhancing knowledge exchange. We propose a tripartite mechanism for this exchange: first, understanding users’ knowledge bases, including their cognitive, absorptive, and technological capacities; second, establishing institutional structures such as governance, team dynamics, and resource allocation; and third, enhancing relational engagement through trust-building and brokerage mechanisms. Using LinkedIn as a case study, we analyse user reviews to advocate for improved user profile designs that accurately reflect users’ evolving knowledge needs and value aspirations. The study highlights the importance of robust governance and effective team structures in tailoring engagement, supporting users’ cognitive challenges, and fostering user-to-user interactions.
