Global, regional, and national levels of maternal mortality, 1990–2021: a systematic analysis for the Global Burden of Disease Study 2021
There is a persistent global disparity in MMR despite overall declines. Achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) requires addressing inequities through strengthened health data systems, expanded maternal healthcare coverage, improved access to contraception and safe abortion, and enhanced health system monitoring. Evaluating SDI is crucial for tailored strategies to optimize health systems and improve maternal health outcomes worldwide.
